Answers to the Frequently Asked Questions:

Top Questions:

Can I go swimming off of the pontoon boats?
No.

Do I need a special licence to drive a boat?
Nope. All you need is a valid drivers licence for your country.

Are dogs allowed on the pontoon boats?
Yes, if they are friendly and have a leash, but they are absolutely not allowed on the seats or upholstery and they are counted as one of the passengers. Also you are responsible for any messes they may make on the boat.

What is the age limit?
On the pontoon boats? There are no age restrictions for riders.
On kayaks or stand-up paddleboards? Users must be 6 years old or older to leave the shore.

Can I drink on the boat?
Everyone can drink except the driver or underage passengers. We also don't allow any glass bottles.

Can I stop by the dock at our hotel/cabin to pick up friends?
Unfortunately, no. Drop-offs and pick-ups can only be arranged at our rental dock.

Can I tow this (wakeboard, tube, kneeboard, etc)?
No, but if you are interested in doing a watersport you should check out Big Bear Watersports; for almost the same price as a regular boat rental, you get a captain, a dedicated tow boat, tips or lessons, and still get to be out on the lake.

What are the Lake rules?

Pontoon Boats

What is the damage deposit on pontoon or fishing boats?
$350.00. An imprint of your card or cash is held when you arrive and returned upon the damage-free return of the boat. If there is no damage or cleaning needed, the deposit won't even show up on your credit card so there is no holding/release period.

Can I park the pontoon boat on a beach?
No.

Can I bring a cooler or food on board?
Absolutely. Please don't leave a mess though.

Do I have to wear a lifejacket on a pontoon boat?
California Law requires that children aged 12 and under must wear a personal flotation device. Adult are welcome to wear a lifejacket if they would like however it is not required. Every boat has more than enough lifejackets under the seats.

Can I bring my barbecue?
Fire + gasoline boat + insurance companies and lawyers ... we cannot allow barbecues.

What counts as a passenger?
The lake patrol defines a passenger as anyone with a heartbeat including dogs.

Fishing Boats

What does it mean "400lbs"?
(We actually get asked this all the time) It means the total weight of all the passengers should not exceed 400lbs. This usually means 2 adults and a child or maybe an adult and 3 kids. Or you and 4 dogs. Whatever ends up under 400lbs works.

Kayaks and Stand-up Paddleboards

What is the damage deposit on kayaks or stand-up paddleboards?
$100.00. An imprint of your card or cash is held when you arrive and returned upon the damage-free return of the boat. If there is no damage or cleaning needed, the deposit won't even show up on your credit card so there is no holding/release period.

Do I have to wear a lifejacket on a kayak or stand-up paddleboard?
Big Bear Lake Patrol requires that everyone wear a personal flotation device while on a kayak or paddleboard

How far can I go?
So long as you stay between the 5mph buoys and the shore, you can paddle as far as you want. Just don't forget that you have to paddle back!
